YAY! I am almost already booked in full for the Richmond Q&A before I even have the chance to blog about it, that-is-awesome! So I wanted to talk a little about it and also clear up a couple of questions about it just so we are all on the same page 🙂
First and foremost, I REALLY want to thank all of the people who attended previous Q&As! I didn’t know what to expect with them and my initial goal was to get everyone together to network and talk about photography..even if you WEREN’T interested in starting a business but liked it as a hobby, it was a great way to get together with other people who shared the same passion! But, as the attendee count got higher, I sort of felt like we weren’t able to get to everyone’s questions and help on a more individual basis. That’s okay though, however, because they were FREE and I wasn’t charging!
Talking with a friend recently who I adore and admire and strive to be like as a business woman, I should have been charging for these because it is my experience, time and knowledge that I worked and invested in and I was just giving it away…when I had spent SO much time and $$$ of my own gaining it!
I believe in this industry, and I want to respect it ENTIRELY. I had planned to charge for Q&As in 2013 but point is, I should have been doing it from the beginning! If you are unhappy with paying for information that someone else has worked very hard for, or are unhappy with investing money back into your business…then I would heavily suggest not taking this on as a serious career. More and more I am talking to people who are always disconcerted with the financial aspect of INVESTING in this field but it’s a requirement and there is no way around it if you’re looking to grow. Your equipment, your knowledge, your website, your blog, your business cards and other media, your flash drives, your computer, it ALL costs money and it’s all important! Don’t PRESSURE yourself to build your business SO fast if it’s taking a toll on your bank account, life, marriage, etc. You should be making enough money with WHAT YOU HAVE and master your small equipment first to be able to afford all of the necessary investments! 🙂 Stay positive and if your heart is in it and you are WILLING to work hard, you will make it!

We will be going over email, inquiries, business in general, workflow, editing software, and SO much more– and then whatever you want to ask! Headshots, too 🙂
I have really enjoyed talking to the gals who have signed up so far and can not WAIT to meet and work with them! 🙂
