It’s changed so many times. My branding, my packaging, my business. If I told you that 15 completely and utterly plain DVD boxes last year cost me $75 a box? For FIFTEEN COMPLETELY BLANK AND WHITE BOXES?
It’s true. Gosh, this business is such an investment at every turn. I remember starting with a free Vistaprint website, Vistaprint business cards that had THEIR website on the back, cheap colorful disc paper sleeves and cheap discs from BJ’s because that’s all we could afford.
Did I mention that we spent $20,000 last year on equipment and business investing? We did that because we didn’t want to do the same this year, and we didn’t want to break it into two. We wanted to go ALL OUT while Cammy was new to this world and get all of my big lenses, cameras, etc purchased so I could be READY and step up my game so sooooo big time this year. My prices were a lot higher than last year, my talent has changed and my business workflow is a whole different story. I dress differently (more professional) I work faster, I edit faster, I check emails more often (which is the hardest of all to keep up with) and I am DETERMINED to do an amazing job and be better than I ever have before. It’s such a learning process and I know I had to grow and couldn’t have started out this way, and occasionally I’ll find myself hanging my head, “I can’t believe I gave people discs in paper sleeves” but when you have a $3500 camera you want/need and 5 L series lenses on your list (those are the highest quality Canon lenses) that range between $1000 and $2400 you definitely can only afford paper sleeves. I HAVE to stop being hard on myself and comparing my own middle to my own beginning. I wish I could have given previous clients better EVERYthing but I know they hired me for me and at a lower price weren’t expecting golden trinkets to arrive in the mail, just their images a new gal worked super hard for.
So, here is my packaging that as simple as it looks, took me a long time to get to– and I ADORE it. I love it because it’s simple but it’s fitting to my brand and personality and keeps it really simple and clean.
The sparkly white glitter tape holds up the Thank You card that displays an image of the newlyweds in it. I RUSH ordered (from the awesome MPIX.COM) my favorite print off the top of my head Saturday night right after the wedding and had it delivered to me in time to mail the package on Wednesday.
That’s another thing– I edited the ENTIRE wedding Monday. I culled it between Saturday night and Sunday early morning. This kind of effort came with experience that I couldn’t have ever done until THIS year. More of my images are coming out better SOOC and I also having culling software that saved me about 6 entire hours that I would have spent culling in Lightroom. I am SO glad to be able to give this extremely quick and rare service to my clients because I have heard very often lately of people waiting 6 months to a year for images. My couples? 3-4 days. Seriously, I use PASS and so they get all of their images in a beautifully displayed gallery that even categorizes the day’s events and also has the ability to let viewers download images or the entire vent, share specific images to Facebook and pin images to Pinterest! WOW! SERIOUSLY 🙂 And on top of that, they’re getting the USB in the mail 🙂
The USBS’s are from Flashbay.com and I totally and utterly recommend them, awesome service and quality <3
Then there are my business cards with the sparkly pearl finish from Zazzle.com
And last but not least, a teeny tiny piece of art from Cammy. She, after all, is who led me this far with inspiring me to capture life’s beauty and moments..and I mean that with all my heart. I hope couples will keep this as a reminder that they are not just a part of my life, but my family’s too. One day Cammy will be taking ballet lessons or getting her first camera thanks to their business support 🙂
Sticker, address label and stamps all from Zazzle.com too!
