Since I’d rather have sea oats and sand as my yard preference when it comes to referencing “the grass is greener” — should I have incorporated that? Probably— but for the sake and ease and making more sense and being relatable, let’s stick with GRASS for this one 🙂

Everyone’s heard the expression. The grass is greener on the other side. More recently, everyone has heard the updated devil’s advocate version, the grass is greener where you water it.

It’s TRUE — the grass is greener where you water it. Where you nurture and sow it, where you see it for what it is and make the best of….that’s the truth about your grass, people.

But…you have to actually take care of it. You can’t say you’re watering your grass when you’re actually pulling out a can of spray paint and just covering it up. Oh, especially when you’re spraying it that annoying bright green that everyone knows isn’t real. You can post a million times what you think people want to see and hear and tell people you are happy and living a fulfilled, rich life…but if you aren’t…trust me…people smell it as sure as spray paint when they come across it.

There was a major university a few years back SPRAY PAINTING their grass to be “perfect” and attract new students.

You know what happened? The squirrels that came near it started getting sick and acting weird and then dying. Kind of crazy right?!! Those people who are around this kind of spray painted grass start to slowly fall off and can’t handle the fumes. Because you know what? They’re toxic, like insincerity.

I recently blogged about my good problem…and from that, I want to move forward and mention that I am inspiring and PUSHING others to choose happiness!!! Real happiness! Our hashtag is KittyHawkSimpleLife for a reason!!! It’s not about things, it’s about your family and of course for us– living by the sea. Salt air breathed in day in and out from our bedroom window. I’m working HARD to demand that others love their lives despite how they have felt before and despite what they are saying they deserve. We ALL deserve a shot at happiness, and GRACE tells us this! We are all guilty of sin and being imperfect, but that doesn’t mean we don’t deserve to dust it off..try again..and thank the existence of grace for that new chance.

But….don’t pull out the can of spray paint and cover up your issues. There is no genuine fake it until you make it with your personality or happiness..owning that is important. I own my mistakes, my flaws. I blog about them, I pray about them, especially the worst ones I’ve made, I don’t take them lightly when praying, but I also use my mistakes and flaws and life experiences to help others. You can do everything to emulate other people’s happiness all you want but it won’t make you feel it deep down inside. You’ll still obsess, dwell, overthink and you’ll never find it in trying to be anyone but yourself. YOU HAVE TO LOVE YOURSELF. You’re the only unique thing in your life that you have! Your business may be doing great, or not so great, but the one thing your business and life has that NO ONE else can is YOU!

If you’ve been spray painting for a while, it may be hard to break the habit. It’s been easy right? Pull out the can, push the button down. Or– you could START FRESH. You could decide today that you’re going to drag yourself to the store, buy the mulch, do you research and take care of your own unique grass that deserves that attention.

  1. For me, social media can kind of feel like one big glossy gold can of spray paint! Thank you for this reminder 🙂 Genuine happiness > a perfect looking life

  2. so at first I was really confused before I read the post and thought you were actually going to be talking about a DIY project and how smelling the fumes etc…. but then I got it! Talk about owning your true self… Hi.. my name is Brooke and although I can be really smart (at times) I’m also really slow on the up take! BAHAHHAAH! Love this post! I didn’t start realizing that it was OK to just be who I am and be CONFIDENT in ALL of it (flaws, mistakes, good, bad, ugly and great) until I hit my 30’s…. so you go girl!!!! Love you!!!
