We Holy Slacked | Saltwater + Grace

What a title hahaha! Cammy asked me today, “does God think we’re funny?” — I think he does. I think he loves the title of this because it’s real and candid and totally weird like the Hedgepeth gals. The truth is…I was loving every second of devotionals and journaling, church, all of it! But when I woke up that ‘fateful’ Sunday as Mike and I like to call it and it was the first official morning sickness day during the first trimester in April..well..we began the holy slacking.

I didn’t go to church for 6 weeks. I didn’t journal, read one devotional. Shooting weddings, raising the girls, showering, holding down one saltine at a time…THAT became my challenge and I had to unfortunately put the rest on the back burner because even sitting down to attempt to connect with Him intentionally with real focus stressed me out. I am such a type A person that I like to be organized about my praying and devotional time, haha! Seriously, I LOVE doing it that way though because I’m still learning so much that I need to concentrate. I prayed mostly while I was laying on the bathroom floor hoping God would let me make it through another day because of how severe the nausea was but JUST these past couple weeks we have been able to attempt church again (and on that note…for summer time we are traveling a LOT so we are missing it for other reasons!) — and I have been able to slow down and get back to reading and journaling. I miss doing my research and reading! And I am also trying to catch up on editing and work and the whole she-bang…so, I am admitting my holy slacking but VERY excited to get back into the swing of things of at least 1-2 devotionals a week and journaling alongside!

I love knowing I am not alone in this. Seasons of life get so crazy sometimes my friends have felt the same about not being able to give as much attention to their faith as they want to. What I am thankful for is how EXCITED I am to dive in a little more deeply again and continue studying and loving every second of it. When I was younger, I’d be over it by now. I’d be like yep that was fun! K bye! And now I’m like AHHH I need this time to myself! I want my devotional book and journal by my bedside and to sit down for 15 at least a night before bed with those bad boys!

Thank you to those who commiserate on the holy slacking. When Cammy asked me if God thought we were funny today, I thought this would be the perfect way to blog tonight and post first thing in the morning ๐Ÿ™‚ She thanked him today for clouds, the sky, water, and for the words thank you. She is SO weird…but isn’t that grand?!

Thanks for the unending and underserving grace, God. You’re so good to us girls and Mike ๐Ÿ™‚
